Worker Retraining

Highline's Worker Retraining program uses State grant dollars to help dislocated workers get started in a job retraining program.

Worker Retraining provides:

  • First quarter start-up funding of tuition, fees and books (with additional funding sometimes available).
  • Assistance with Employment Security paperwork to continue receiving unemployment benefits while attending one of Highline's Professional-Technical degree or certificate programs.
  • Ongoing support services and referrals as needed.

Eligibility:

You are a Dislocated Worker or otherwise eligible person, if:

  • You are currently receiving Washington State unemployment benefits.
  • You have received a layoff notice or are applying for Washington State unemployment benefits.
  • You have exhausted Washington State unemployment benefits within the last 24 months and are not working 30 or more hours per week.
  • You have been dependent on the income of another family member (spouse or partner) and that income has become unavailable within the last 2 years due to layoff, divorce/legal separation or death of that family member.
  • You have owned and operated your own business in Washington and are now unemployed because of the general economic conditions in the community in which you reside.
  • You are an honorably discharged veteran.

You must also be:

  • A Washington State resident (living in WA for the last 12 months).
  • Studying a professional-technical degree or certificate program at Highline.
(we cannot fund transfer intent or extended learning courses)
