Getting Started

Highline WES Student Checklist

Get Started At Highline

  • Choose your career and training pathway
  • Apply to become a Highline student
    • Fill out an application to the school online or in person in Building 6
    • Pay the admissions fee (and placement testing fee if needed)
      or get help paying from the Women's Programs office
    • Students new to college may be required to attend a New Student CORE Orientation. Learn more here.

Get Registered in Your Classes

  • Course placement (test or transcripts)
    • If you have never taken college English or Math courses before, you will need to take a placement test. To learn more visit the Testing Center page
    • If you have taken college English or Math courses before, you can bring a copy of your previous college transcript with you to see an advisor
  • Visit an advisor for help choosing your classes
    • Find the Faculty Advisor for your program (listed under "Faculty Advisors"): Programs & Courses
    • Visit a General Advisor for walk-in hours in Building 6: Advising
  • Register in your classes
    • Students new to college may be required to attend a New Student CORE Orientation before they can register for classes.

Set Up Your Funding

  • Apply for Federal Financial Aid
    • File your FAFSA by following the steps here: How To Apply
    • Turn an HCC Data Sheet in to the Financial Aid drop box in Building 6
    • Check the Financial Aid Portal to see other required documents needed
    • Summer Quarter Instructions:
      In addition to the steps above, turn in your summer class schedule to the financial aid drop box in Building 6
  • Apply for WES funding
    • Attend a WES Orientation
    • Turn in application documents to WES Office Building 9 (Temporarily)
    • After you are registered in classes, meet one-on-one for first-time funding review with a WES advisor
    • In your second quarter, and beyond, drop each new class schedule off to the WES Office for continued funding review
