What is the Census Date?

- The Census Date is an agreement that students will finalize their class schedule by the 4th day of each quarter.
- Classes added, dropped, or swapped after this date will not be paid for and will be the student’s responsibility to arrange a payment for that class.
I’m eligible for WES at another college and want to transfer to Highline, do I need to view the Funding Orientation?

- Yes, since your WES information does not get shared across colleges. The good news is that all Workforce programs in Washington State have similar grant requirements. If you’re eligible for funding at your other college, you may also be eligible at Highline.

I’ve received WES funding a long time ago, am I considered a new WES student?

- If you have not access our funding program in over a year, your file may be archived. You will be required to view the New WES Student Funding Orientation, and complete our funding application to determine eligibility for funding.

- You may be eligible for our Worker Retraining Grant to help you retrain for new job, career or to upgrade your skill sets. We are partnered with Employment Security Department (ESD) who can also help you receive weekly job search waivers, and receive up to 26-weeks of additional benefits.
What does the Workforce Education Services (WES) program offer?

- WES is a start-up financial assistance program designed to support students who are pursuing a professional-technical degree and/or certificate. Students may receive assistance for tuition, books, DSHS childcare subsidy referral, and accessing public benefits.
How do I register for classes?

- To view a list of required classes for your program, log onto your online ctcLink Student Portal.
- Complete an Add/Drop Form and submitting it to Registration & Records.
- Meet with a Pathway Advisor in the Advising Center to explore the different programs at Highline and create a class plain.
Will I have to pay for classes when I register?

- After registering for classes please complete our checklist to apply for funding.
- If you qualify we will reserve your spot in class until funds are applied towards your tuition balance. Please note that our funding is not guaranteed even if you’re eligible (first-come, first-serve basis).
Do I need to apply for Financial Aid (FAFSA/WASFA)?

- Yes, even if you have a Bachelor’s degree or higher you must complete Financial Aid application. This is required for all students applying for WES funding.
- There are two types of application. WASFA which is for students who are not eligible for federal aid because of immigration status (undocumented or Real Hope/DACA). If you are not an undocumented student please apply for FAFSA.

When will I know if I am eligible for WES funding?

- After completing our checklist your assigned Workforce Advisor will review your file and send you an email regarding your eligibility for our program.
- Stay in touch with your Workforce Advisor throughout the quarter if you have questions about your funding, maintaining eligibility, updates to your class schedule or academic plan, or withdrawing from classes after we’ve paid.
How do I receive WES funding each quarter?

- As soon as you sign up for classes for the next quarter, please complete the Funding renewal, if you are a returning student, or the Orientation, if you are brand new or have not received funding in the last 12 months.
- These forms are located on the WES Homepage next to the image banner
- If your file is outdated you may be asked to submit additional documents to determine if you’re still eligible for funding.
